- Theme for 2026: Radical Compassion
Chaplaincy is a clear expression of radical compassion that goes beyond ordinary kindness. It’s a courageous commitment to see the humanity in others even when they are suffering, angry, marginalised, or difficult to understand. Chaplaincy bears witness to Jesus, who himself demonstrates radical compassion and offers fullness of life.
So, what is so radically compassionate about chaplains who courageously bear witness to the presence of God?
Perhaps it is the courage to sit with people in grief or crisis without trying to fix them, offering a presence in moments others might avoid. Maybe it is being the one who doesn’t ‘cross to the other side’ but is willing to be present with pain and moral complexity rather than turning away. Maybe it is radical to set aside assumptions to truly understand someone’s story or to believe in transformation and fullness of life in Jesus for those for whom society has deemed unworthy.
The Chaplaincy Conference is available for all those who are engaged in this call to radical compassion as a chaplain. The conference is generously funded through the Mission Service for the encouragement, equipping and celebration of your chaplaincy, whether in a local setting, division or centralised service.
