International Day of Children and Young People
Join us in celebrating International Day of Children and Young People on Sunday 26 April, or on another Sunday of your choice.
Join us as we champion the potential, voice and value of children and young people and recognise the vital role they play at the heart of The Salvation Army.
For many children and young people, today’s world can feel overwhelming. They encounter darkness in many forms, around them and within, through war, climate anxiety, bullying, loneliness, depression, addiction and the constant pressure to measure up to certain standards. Yet light continues to shine through their courage, faith and hope.
In our celebration of the International Day of Children and Young People 2026, we explore the theme of light. This reflects our shared vision that every child and young person would know their identity as loved and chosen by God, living as light in the Lord.
To help leaders, families and communities help children and youth embrace a life filled with hope, truth and love, we have prepared some resources that reflect our vision within this theme.
- A video introducing the theme featuring Major Juanita Wright and Kevyn Oliver
- A Facilitator Guide featuring sermon ideas around the theme ‘In the Light’
- A downloadable Family Prayer Resource
