Children & Youth Participation Survey

The Children & Youth Voices Diagnostic is a partnership between The Salvation Army and Participation People, designed to help us better understand how children and young people experience participation across the life of the organisation. Building on the many examples of excellent practice that already exist, this project seeks to celebrate strengths, identify opportunities for growth, and explore how children and young people can play a more active role in shaping the future of The Salvation Army. At its heart is a simple belief: children and young people are not just recipients of programmes and support, but valued contributors, leaders and partners in mission.

The diagnostic is not an inspection, audit or performance review. Instead, it is an opportunity for reflection, learning and collaboration. Through surveys, stakeholder interviews, listening labs, focus groups and co-production activities, we are gathering insights from children, young people, adults, staff, volunteers and leaders from across the Territory. Together, we are seeking to understand where participation is already thriving, where there may be barriers, and what will help children and young people feel more heard, valued and involved in shaping their communities and experiences.

The hope is that this process will embed a culture where young people feel heard, valued and influential. The findings will contribute to a Children & Youth Voices Diagnostic Report, a Participation Benchmark and Roadmap, and practical tools that will support future development. Ultimately, we want every child and young person to know that their voice matters, that adults are listening, and that their ideas can help shape meaningful change across The Salvation Army for years to come.
