Praying for Racial Justice
Welcome to this page dedicated to praying for racial justice during times of gathered worship. We are all part of one human race and racism is a pernicious injustice. It is also something that many people don’t feel equipped to lead prayers for.
These resources are designed to help you confidently lead prayers for racial justice, in a meaningful and transformative way.
Leaning on lived experience and shared wisdom, eight writers from inside and outside The Salvation Army have prepared the prayers that are compiled on this page. They are:
- Rev Dr Israel Oluwole Olofinjana
- Captain Kook Hwan Rho
- Captain Lizette Williams
- Dr Naar M'fundisi-Holloway
- Lieutenant Nazia Yousaf
- Rev Osoba Otaigbe
- Captain Tony Kakande
- Washington Gwenzi
Woven together, these prayers form a rich tapestry of voices, guiding us to seek both personal renewal and the communal justice God desires.
We are all part of one human race.
This is a chance to come before God, praying into all the ways that racism fractures this truth.
Many thanks to Captain Adrian Allen (Territorial Intercultural Mission Officer Coordinator) and Jennifer Laurent-Smart (Equality and Diversity Manager) for helping to coordinate and present this material.
